About

My name is Marg Murnane. I am a teacher at Hawkesdale P12 college in south west Victoria, in Australia. I teach literacy and humanities to students in years 6 and 7 and I work closely with a couple of very clever technoheads - Anne Mirtschin and Jess McCulloch. One can’t but help being dragged down the exciting cyberspace path with the enthusiasm generated by these two mentors, so for better or for worse, here is my first blog.

23rd April
After many hours of tutoring from Anne, Jess and the students, we have managed to set up a year 6 blog as well. The site was developed with 100% input by the students. I asked them what features they wanted on their blog and we set about making a site that suited their needs. By watching them add the features, I was able to learn for myself and I’m afraid we may have created a monster.

From an educational viewpoint, the blogging in which the students are involved, is one of the most highly motivational tools I have ever employed. The students are adding posts from home, enjoying the comments which visitors are leaving and are constantly asking me to borrow the camera or go to the pod, so they can add things to their blogs. Their enthusiasm is infectious and I am really excited about the possibilities.

We have been fortunate to have Heather Blakey visit us on a number of occasions, and during her last visit, we found time to sit and work together. As I built my site, Heather was there holding my hand. Stay tuned.

These are a few of the furry friends in my backyard.

A Few of My Furry Friends

This is Storm - a 6 week old Australian Red Tailed Black Cockatoo. Storm features in a Voicethread on our year 6 blog, so be sure and check it out and read of his adventures.
